Christmas 2009
As we peer out into the evening sky we are reminded the darkness we call night is the natural and permanent state of the universe. Because we bask in the life giving light of our Sun we think of the natural state of material life as being daylight interrupted by periods of darkness. This is not the state of things, and materiality is perpetuated in a seemingly endless universe of darkness. However, there are islands of light that result from the indentations in the darkness around which life swirls at an unimaginable velocity, generating heat and luminosity.
Our Sun is a living body of light in the expanding darkness of the universe. Our solar system, the ground beneath our feet and our physical bodies are all portions of the Sun. As parts of our Sun we have chosen to live outside of this massive body but none the less we draw our life from it. We honor the light because it reflects what we are made of. This is no less true mentally or spiritually where we draw our mental life from the light we call wisdom and our spiritual life from the light we call love.
On every level, physically, mentally and spiritually, we are the light that shines in the darkness. We have entered the night to experience our light in the most meaningful way. One cannot see, nor can they measure the light of a candle on the Sun but we can discern the glow of even the smallest spark in the darkness. In the darkness we can comprehend our size and shape; our color and tone. Ultimately, in the darkness we will grow to know ourselves in the deepest and most intimate way.
When we curse the darkness that comes into our lives we squander our destiny to light up the night. It is for this we left the side of Boundless Love; so that we, the reflections of Infinite Loving Kindness may, through our activities, illuminate creation. We have an excellent example in the life our Lord, who was the embodiment of tenderness. Our Jesus lived a life of kindness. If our God wanted to light up the darkness He would have done so, but He wanted to do so as us. Our Jesus was a light in the lives of everyone and everything he touched, not simply because he was God but because He was the best of us. Our precious Lord did not avoid the darkness because He knew He was the light. Through His activities, our Prince turned night into day not only in his own place and time, but everywhere and forever.
Our Jesus knew no fear, not only because He was perfect but because He had unshakable faith that He was a part of God; the light in the darkness. He dealt with individuals one at a time. He interacted with life, in situations, one at a time. It was the quality and not the quantity of life our Lord revered. He had no question regarding His mission. Our Savior amassed no fortune, no possessions; He collected only the hearts of His fellow souls. He is us, and He showed us our mission, our destiny; our godhood.
As we go out into the darkness this day let us remember this is the natural state. It is our blessing from Infinite Loving Kindness that we may be lights in the lives of those we touch. This is the reason, the only reason we find ourselves in flesh and bone in the ever expanding darkness of this unimaginable universe. He, our Prince, is our example, and His indescribable love is our sustenance. As we celebrate the Christ-mass, let us remember, just as He has chosen us, we may choose to be Him. For the promise of the season is we are Him, we are the light of the candle in the darkness, and nothing can extinguish the light of God.
May God bless you at this Christmastime and forever, with that remembrance of the “reason for the season,” the remembrance of who you are, and the joy of expressing your incredible holiness.

good stuff
