Do I have a soul mate?
That depends largely on how you define soul mate. A soul mate in a literal sense is one soul divided into two vehicles. More loosely, a soul mate can be a soul with whom we have shared such an intimate relationship, both in and outside of the earth, that we interpenetrate each other forming a single consciousness.
Most people in our lives are associates from the past. Not only past incarnations in the earth but in those experiences we have had between earthly experiences. It is well to note, as we measure time, only a very small fraction of time is spent in material incarnation. We spend a vast amount more time in those realms surrounding materiality; it is to where we go between earth lives and is more a home to us than the earth is. Soul mates share experiences not only in repeated material incarnations but between them as well.
We are connected to our soul mate whether they are incarnate in the earth with us or not. Neither distance nor form severs the connection between soul mates. However, we often believe that having a compelling intimate relationship with someone means they are our soul mate and this is just not so.
Finally, how do you know if someone is really your soul mate? There is no test that uniformly applies. If we conduct our lives in such a way that we live as if all who we contact are our soul mates, we will have begun to understand our oneness with our God and all creation.
